Spaceship began with watercolor and no particular destination in mind.
As the colors spread and settled, a shape emerged that reminded me of a spacecraft. I began following that suggestion, developing the form with pen and marker and gradually building an imagined environment around it.
What began as an accidental arrangement of color became a recognizable vessel, set against a dark star-filled sky.
I was struck by how naturally the image developed once I recognized the form. Something I hadn’t intended to paint became the starting point for a much larger exploration.
Within the Matrix Series, Spaceship marks a departure. The world established in the earlier pieces now contains a means of traveling beyond itself.
